The lesson focuses what the three main aspects of PSHE education are (RSE, Living in the Wider World and Health and Wellbeing) before examining a number of case studies where young adults’ lives could have been transformed had they paid attention in their PSHE lessons. 2 HOURS - A fully-resourced, 2 hour lesson which investigates the concepts of free speech and hate speech. Students will explore the UK’s hate speech laws in comparison to other countries and examine contemporary news events where free speech has been used as an excuse for hate speech, such as the YouTuber, ‘PewDiePie’ and his antisemitic ‘pranks’. This lesson is great for PSHE (investigating bigoted language) or for Citizenship, to examine UK laws in an interesting way, or as part of a Human Rights unit. The lesson is most suitable or KS4 / KS5 (but there is nothing unsuitable for KS3) and is editable, so easy to adapt for your own PSHE planning. Asking for help and advice PSHE lesson 1 hour, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for upper KS2 or lower KS3 all about asking for help and advice on both matters which may seem trivial, but also following gut feelings when you feel someone could be in danger or being hurt. This lesson covers how to seek suitable help and advice online from trusted sites for young people, by calling suitable helplines or by asking appropriate adults (as specified by the new 2020 PSHE Association Guidelines). The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. An assembly all about turning over a new leaf and being ambitious and changing your attitude. There is a big focus on working hard and how you can change your mindset to be more positive at any time. It lasts about 15 -20 minutes if clips are watched and questions asked too. The assembly uses the story of how Jay-Z escaped a tough childhood and gangs by working incredibly hard and throwing himself into writing and music. It follows Shawn (the young Jay-Z - hopefully students won’t recognise who the assembly is about until the end) as he grows up as a troubled boy in Brooklyn, through the departure of his father, his grades slipping at school and how he eventually reached a crossroads. With encouragement from his mother, young Shawn decided to change his attitude and make a fresh start. The assembly emphasises the importance of hard work, staying positive and taking the opportunity presented by making a fresh start in life - which can be especially related to at the beginning of a school term. There are optional clips to watch throughout and teacher notes (in the slide notes of the PowerPoint) with suggested questions that can be posed at each point and ideas to reflect on.
